Dr. Joshua Black is a grief researcher, speaker, author, consultant, online course instructor, and host of the Grief Dreams Podcast. He has focused all of his MA and PhD research (in psychology) on investigating dreams in bereavement (also known as grief dreams) and continuing bonds from many types of loss (including prenatal loss and pet loss). Most of his academic research and publications have specifically been on dreams of the deceased. Dr. Black is considered one of the world’s leading academic experts in grief dreams. Due to the lack of academic research in this field, Dr. Black has focused his efforts on raising awareness on grief dreams through doing talks, interviews, and developing an online Grief Dreams course. Additionally, he developed a grief dreams website (www.griefdreams.ca) and runs several social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Clubhouse @griefdreams).

Addison Brasil lost his brother to cancer, found his father after suicide, and survived a fatal event that killed a dear friend and left him relearning to walk all before age 30. Despite being "just to the left" of death so intimately, whenever someone would share they had experienced loss or ask how to support another person dealing with the loss he would freeze. After thirteen years in the grief club arena, Addison's new book is something he wants to offer to anyone grieving. First Year of Grief Club: A Gift From From A Friend Who Gets It is available on Amazon. Starting from the first day, it provides a companion through the first year of what Addison Brasil calls real-life grief. The daily, and then weekly offerings are manageable check-ins from a friend who gets it. It’s a way of showing your support and also remaining a pillar of support for a year after the loss or the death of a loved one. Addison says the Pandemic helped him realize how universal grief is - and it is not just the loss of a loved one, it results as the loss of anything meaningful.

Susan Combs, author and founder of “Pancakes for Roger,” is President of Combs & Company, a full-service insurance brokerage firm based in New York City. Susan started the company at twenty-six years old with a drive to “Do more, better.” This internal mantra has resulted in numerous successes and firsts, like being named the youngest National President in the over eighty-five-year history of Women in Insurance & Financial Services (WIFS) and the first female Broker of the Year winner for BenefitsPro. Susan is “a Missouri girl in a New York world,” and it’s the lessons she learned during her Midwestern upbringing and two-plus decades in New York City that is the basis of this book. The insights contained in these pages come from family, friends, colleagues, and life in general. But the most important teachings are from her late father. It was his steady guidance in life that set Susan’s foundation and it was his passing that inspired her new movement, Pancakes for Roger.

Jason Dyke founded Carson's Village in June 2017, a first-of-its-kind nonprofit organization that provides free support and resources to families who have experienced the sudden loss of a loved one. The determination to start Carson's Village came after Jason lost his youngest son, Carson, to suicide when he was just 11-years-old. After that experience, Jason realized that there is not an organization in the United States that is dedicated to supporting families from passing to the funeral and then through the first year after a loss to ensure healthy grieving. Carson's Village was created to fill that gap and to address the stress and challenge of that period of time. As of March 1, 2021, Carson’s Village has helped nearly 800 families and was named the Organization of the Year (small) by DCEO. In addition, Carson’s Village was selected by the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to be in the 2020 cohort of the Social Innovation Accelerator program. Jason holds both a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering as well as a Masters of Business Administration from Texas A&M University. He works as a Business Development Manager on AT&T’s connected car team. In the past, he has owned and operated two restaurants in the Austin area as well as an auto repair shop in north Dallas. Jason serves as a board member on the Coppell Education Foundation. His wife, April, is a diagnostician at Coppell Middle School North and together they have two sons, Alex who is freshman at Texas Tech University and Ryan who is a senior at Coppell high school.

Stevie Fedele says family is the most important thing in her life, especially the ones she spends all her time with - a 5 year old daughter, an 8 month old son and her husband:) Raised by the most amazing parents she could ever ask for, one that now lives in heaven and the other that now goes by Papa:) She has two older protective sisters that she loves very much. Her mom was Italian, so her extended family is a huge part of her and she loves that about her life. Second to family is her passion to help people! Help them heal, grow and reach their own personal definition of success. This is her work as a life coach, a place where she has never felt more aligned. She has worked as a hair stylist/life coach for the last 17 years, well really just a hair stylist but believe she believes it qualifies;) she is slowly transiting into a full time life coach and stepping out from working behind the chair. She has realized in her healing journey that although she loves styling hair, it is the relationships with the people that she loves most, and feels she is now ready to elevate those relationships! You will find her most often outside of her home at Breathe yoga, where she teaches and practices yoga. She considers this is a major source of her healing, growth and inspiration in life! Relationships with others is very high on her list of things valued, and she feels she has some of the most amazing friendships and a community of beautiful people that support her daily. She loves quotes and a favorite is, “I have found that if you love life, life will love you back." She is learning and practicing how to love life everyday, every moment.

Nick Gaylord has always had a passion for helping others. He has spent 28 years working in Quality Assurance and Document Control, always mindful of doing his part to develop life-altering medicines for the patients who need them. This has never felt like enough to him and no matter how meaningful his work in the industry, he wanted to reach more people and in an entirely different way. In January of 2024, Nick decided to launch a podcast designed as a safe space for laughter and grief around the death of a parent. This platform enables him to tell the very personal story of his complicated relationship with his own father, who passed away in 2021, and the many unresolved feelings he has dealt with in the aftermath.
OUR DEAD DADS is Nick’s way to give people who are struggling a community where they can come to see they are not alone. He wants the podcast to be a platform for sharing stories of grief and loss, the trauma that often follows, and ultimately, moving forward. He hopes to inspire others to tell their own story or to find healing in another’s. Through the magic of conversation, Nick hopes to normalize this type of difficult conversation that has been seen as taboo for far too long. It’s time to change the world one damaged soul at a time with the help of OUR DEAD DADS.

Corey and Katie Kearsley: Corey and Katie entered widowhood in 2016. Corey’s wife, Kris, died from pancreatic cancer, 16 months after being diagnosed. They were married for 26 years and have four wonderful children – three daughters and one son. There is one grandchild with another on the way. Katie’s husband, Dave, passed away on Aug 11th 2016, 7 and a half months after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Katie and Dave were married two weeks shy of 27 years. They have three amazing sons together. Corey and Katie met and connected in a widow/widower support group and later married. One of the principles they learned from their own experiences and those of other surviving spouses is that the more prepared a surviving spouse is on a financial, legal, emotional, and practical level, the better they will adjust to widowhood. With so many in their support group sharing hardships that could have been avoided with proper preparation, Corey and Katie decided to launch Prepare Your Affairs. They provide digital tools as well as personal coaching to help families face the future with fortitude.

Paulette Kranjac earned a Master’s Degree in psychology from CUNY, Hunter College, and is certified as a Grief Recovery professional as well. She is an avid life-long learner studying within a variety of educational genres, such as programs on Body, Mind and Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Transformational Education through Landmark Worldwide. Paulette Kranjac’s book New Way to Grieve, came about due to her substantial losses in a short period of time which led to a personal discovery about grieving which she is committed to sharing. Her commitment is that people whose loved ones have died do not have to experience the unnecessary suffering that they often do. Grief is sadness’ as she explains in her book. ‘There is usually anger as well to express and then forgiveness to just get to the pure sadness. Human beings get caught up in what the death means uniquely to us each’, says Kranjac, ‘and that is where some of us get stuck.’

Kelley Lynn is a comedian, actor, viral TED talk speaker, certified grief counselor, and author of the book: "My Husband Is Not a Rainbow; the brutally awful, hilarious truth about life, love, grief, and loss." Her story of love began in 1998, when she met her best friend and soulmate, Don Shepherd, in a music trivia chat room on AOL. Her story of sudden loss and widowhood began just 4 years into their marriage, on an ordinary Wednesday, when Don left for work and never came home. HIs massive cardiac arrest ended his life, and also the life that Kelley knew. Since then, it has been Kelley's mission to help others through their losses by helping them find the light, joy, humor, and resilience they already have inside them.

She is the author of Starving to Heal in Siberia: My Radical Recovery from Late-Stage Lyme Disease.A lifelong lover of dogs, Slater tells the story of her beloved German shepherd Brady's devastating battle with leptospirosis (a serious bacterial infection) and kidney failure, a battle they fought tirelessly together and conquered-thanks to the sophistication of emergency veterinary medicine, the power of alternative holistic modalities, animal communication, and unconditional love. Their extraordinary story of overcoming all medical odds transformed the way Slater thinks of animals-as a scholar and as an ordinary dog lover-and formed the genesis for her book. Her story will make a meaningful impact on the millions of animal lovers who have struggled to cure their animal companions and to dialogue with them about their needs and thoughts. It will validate those who consider their own canine friends to be soul mates, and the genuine grief they experience when their canine companions die.

Vera Snow is a self-proclaimed, Grief Enthusiast, someone who learned from a very young age to seek the light while growing in the shade. It wasn’t by choice but something that came naturally. Grief was a constant presence and tended to hover over her childhood home like a gray cloud. Like a fog, it seemed to infiltrate everything. And like anything else that hangs around long enough, she learned to cohabitate with it and eventually even befriend its many configurations. Over the years, she experienced grief in many forms. The most significant was being raised by WW II refugees and then experiencing the loss of her mother at the age of 19. She came to know the many faces of grief, especially where they hide - invisible, undetected. As a trained Spiritual Director with a Master’s Degree in Human Development, she would welcome the opportunity to help you mine for your unique Grief Language and accompany you in its expression of healing and transformation via Spiritual Direction, Taort, Mediumship and Altar Art.

Debbie Weiss - Debbie's memoir, Available As Is: A Midlife Widow’s Search For Love, is about creating a new life and finding her voice after spending 32 years with her husband who died in 2013. "I was fifty, and had never before been on my own. I was also extremely cautious, having lost my mom at ten so I learned early that those we love can vanish at any time. " Debbie learned, as a widow, about how taking small steps forward can add up to a new life. These lessons include not dating until you've healed, joining groups, proactively reaching out to new people, and most importantly, forgiving yourself when you stumble. With an MFA in Creative Writing at age 56, she gave up a career as a lawyer, and eagerly shares her story with us.
